Up and down and up down. 520 this month. 619 the next. And you have no idea what’s going on from month to month with…your credit score. You’re thinking, “It must be important…they make TV commercials about it and you can buy products and apps for it. Could it all just be a scam?” Absolutely not, my friend. A credit score reflects payment patterns over time, and if left unchecked it can greatly affect your ability to do, well, just about anything with your finances. So what do you do first?
- Start off by checking your credit report and score. If you haven’t already, request a free copy of your credit report and check it for errors.
- Make sure you pay your bills on time. Delinquent payments and collections can have a major negative impact on your credit score.
- Keep credit card balances low. High outstanding debt can also affect your credit score.
Pay off debt rather than moving it around and do not close unused cards as a short term strategy to improve your credit score.
These are just a few things you can do right now to help your credit score. For even more helpful information…and solutions…click here.
