The Downsides of Prom

Bombsquad: Ana & Maddie

High school prom was never in my plans when I entered high school. It was just another silly high school dance.

Reasons why I didn’t go to my high school prom:

  • I didn’t want to buy an expensive dress that I would only wear once.
  • I didn’t feel like partying with people from my high school.
  • My friends weren’t going to prom.
  • I knew I wasn’t going to like the music.
  • I was just ready to graduate, a school dance was not that important to me.

Take it from someone who has gone to prom…it sucks. Here are all the reasons why:

  • Dresses can cost up to a couple hundred dollars.
  • Tickets are insanely overpriced.
  • The fancy dinner is insanely expensive.
  • Dancing isn’t everyone’s thing.
  • Having to go to the bathroom while wearing a long dress.
  • Trying to keep your hair intact.
  • Taking pictures in the heat and sweating all your makeup off.
  • Trying to plan your prom group.
  • Trying to find a date.

Of course aside from all of those cons there are plenty of pros. You get to go to a fancy event with all of your best friends, dress up and feel like a princess, and make memories you will never forget. It all comes down to personal preference if prom is for you or not. Despite all the hard parts, prom is definitely worth it in my opinion.
