The gym is not simply a space for exercise, sweat and pain; the gym is a sanctuary of self-motivation, the realm of focus and the betterment of one’s mind and soul. Yes, this is a scosh dramatic, however, I am not stretching the truth when I say the gym has a different vibe for every member.
For me personally, the gym is a place of stress relief and focus. When I step through those gym doors and that cold AC hits full force sending goose bumps all over and that gym music is gracefully entering through the speakers, my mind enters the state of focus. From this point on, I am on a mission!
I am at the gym to get my sweat on and get out! I am not there to mingle with strangers and make lifelong friends.
Now this is where we get in to those unspoken laws of the gym that everyone should understand and follow:
Law #1 – Don’t sit on the machine on your phone.
Other people want to use that machine, home slice! Do what you need to do, leave the machine and THEN get on your phone. That’s common courtesy folks.
i DO NOT care what you do while you’re at the gym, like props to you for being there, but PLEASE stop texting and snap chatting for minutes at a time while you are lifting, like i wanted that dumbbell 😞

Law #2 – If I have head phones in, I do not wish to be spoken to.
This goes for any situation, if someone has head phones in and they are in the middle of a set, or a work out of any kind, don’t bother them! If they are finished with what they are doing, standing off to the side with only one head phone in, okay, that’s fair.
funny how i see pretty girls come to the gym yet all they do is sit on a mat and gossip… ight so that at home not the gym

Just watched a group of guys at the gym sit around one machine for 20 minutes and not do a single rep. pic.twitter.com/8eEEgHTAKj

Law #3 – If I’m on one machine, you need to skip a machine.
I’m being honest with you when I tell you that it’s for your own safety and protection. I don’t want you to pass out from my gym stench, and I don’t want to scare you with my boss-woman-gym-aggression.
5am this morning at the gym I walked passed a man who smelled full on like pizza. How do you smell like pizza at 5am, sir?
I mean, I\’m not complaining that\’s 10x better than sweat but my curiosity 🤔— Lea (@LPM_Leeeea) July 2, 2018
R the men at my gym really so stupid that they have to walk in front of me, where there is like 1 inch of space, instead of walking behind me, where there is a whole ass gym worth of space ??
— fraudulent torta™️ (@claralivinglife) July 2, 2018
Law #4 – I see you watching me from the other side of the room… stop.
Come on now, don’t entertain yourself by watching me struggle! That ain’t nice!
My rant for the day: please if you are at the gym DON’T stare at other people working out. Whether it be because you think they’re attractive or not just DON’T DO IT. I’m tired of feeling uncomfortable in a place I’m supposed to be only focusing on myself. Mind your business.

These are a few of the unspoken laws I personally feel should be no brainers at the gym. However, in the end the gym is a different space to all of us! So if you want to socialize at the gym, if you prefer classes, or if you prefer to get in the zone all by your lonesome all that matters is that you’re there!
Rock on to all my gym goers! 😉
