Director Baz Luhrmann has cast the King of Rock n’ Roll for his upcoming biopic about late musician Elvis Presley. And the lucky actor is … AUSTIN BUTLER!
The movie will follow highlights of Presley’s career and becoming an icon. Tom Hanks is set to appear in the film and play Elvis Presley’s manager Tom Parker.
Butler is best known for his role in The Carrie Diaries, various Netflix films and shows Hannah Montana, Zoey 101, and iCarly as a teenager. Other stars such as Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also auditioned to play Elvis Presley.
Luhrmann said in a statement about casting Butler that he discovered him “from his stand-out role opposite Denzel Washington in “The Iceman Cometh” on Broadway and through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops.”
“High School Musical” star Vannesa Hudgens has been dating Austin Butler since 2011 and shared her excitement for her man on social media.
There has yet to be a release date or title of the film.
