Back in 2014, Katy Perry and her label were sued by Marcus Gray and two co-authors, for allegedly stealing from their song “Joyful Noise,” for the song “Dark Horse.” Gray who is a relatively unknown Christian rap artist released the song back in 2009 under the stage name Flame. The verdict was decided on Monday, July 29th, 5 years after the initial lawsuit with a unanimous decision by a nine-member federal jury in Los Angeles. The penalty phase is scheduled to begin Today, July 30th, which will determine how much Perry and other defendants owe Gray for copyright infringement. The unanimous decision from the jury came as a shock when all of the defendants were found liable for copyright infringement, including all six songwriters and all four corporations.
