Fashion designer Marc Jacobs is getting honored for his respected influence in pop culture. The icon has been in the game for over 30 years and it’s time for him to be crowned. MTV announced that he will be the first-ever recipient of the Fashion Trailblazer Award at the 2019 VMAs and will be partnering with The Council of Fashion Designers of America.
His designs have made tons of appearances on the red carpet, and he will receive the inaugural award for his “inedible impact within the world of music-artist fashion.” MTV also said in a press release statement, ‘With a legacy that spans over three decades, Jacobs is a preeminent figure in fashion and music, perfectly embodying the spirit of the Fashion Trailblazer Award.”
Marc Jacobs is best known for his notable grunge collection which took off back in the 90s. Stars like Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj Janelle Monae, Missy Elliot, and Cardi B have all worn breathtaking looks by Marc Jacobs.
He used a reworked vintage MTV logo on sweatshirts in his Spring 2017 Resort Collection. In an interview with Vogue, he explained why he used it: “How that all happened, to be honest, was we found a vintage MTV sweater from that period: like a pink sweater with one of the MTV logos. Then we contacted MTV and asked if we could use their logo. Then we got a lot of information about all the different logos. They sent us all the artwork, and then we picked different ones than the sweater we found.”
This year Jacobs will be working with MTV creating a multimedia interactive experience highlighting his creative vision including highly-stylized elements.
To see Marc Jacobs accept the award tune in to 2019 MTV VMAs on August 26.
